Local anesthesia is used to ‘freeze’ a particular area; it is usually used as an additional method for pain control during a surgical procedure. For example during a dental procedure if there is a tooth that needs to be extracted, the vet will perform a dental nerve block providing pain control to your pet under general anesthetic allowing us to use less gas anesthetic which is safer for your pet.
