Contrary to what people believe, cats are not social creatures. Cats are very independent and rely primarily on smell, not sight, to communicate with other cats, hunt for food and locate prey. Cats will communicate by marking their scent using pheromones from their forehead, cheek pouches, tail base and paws. Because cats communicate through scent, they don’t particularly pay attention to verbal sounds that humans make – don’t be upset if your cat refuses to listen to you.
