Contrary to popular belief, cats are not small dogs. Cats were the last species to be domesticated and because of this, they retain many wild traits. As cats can play both the roles of predator and prey, they have a strong desire to hide any signs of illness or pain.

As cats are descendants of wild cats inhabiting the desert, they have a great ability to concentrate their urine. This can lead to urinary tract problems especially when they do not drink much water and urinate often.

In a cat’s natural environment they hunt for food, hide from predators and defend their territory. An indoor cat will have the same instincts but demonstrate it in other ways such as scratching, biting, climbing and/or marking. This may be misinterpreted as a hostile or spiteful behaviour. By understanding cat behaviour you can provide a better environment for you and your beloved feline.
